Fresno woman confesses murder attempt on parents, apologizes

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno woman will get a chance at redemption after trying to kill her own parents. 26-year-old Lisa Alarcon will serve a 20-year prison sentence for the shooting.

Alarcon confessed for the first time Tuesday that she tried to kill her parents.

"I am sorry I hurt them and I love them so much," she said. "(I'm) so sorry. I'm so thankful they're here today. I'm so thankful that they came."

With those words, Alarcon took a giant leap towards reconciliation with her mother and father. In the video, we're not showing their faces for safety concerns, but their words and their tears make their desire to reunite the family obvious.

"Lisa, I would like to start by saying that I love you in spite of what happened that night," said her father, Steve Alarcon. "I forgive you."

Steve Alarcon had to learn to walk again after his daughter opened fire through his bedroom window two years ago. Lisa's mother spent a week in the hospital herself. But their deep religious beliefs have allowed them to move on. Steve says he had a dream where a Christ-like figure took credit for saving him that morning, but also expressed love for Lisa.

"I felt like he picked up my cross that was heavy, so we can live and forgive each other and start a new beginning," he said.

Lisa also took a page from Christianity, quoting Psalms 32:1 as she closed her confessional.

"'Blessed is the one whose fault is removed, whose sin is forgiven,'" she said. "And I'm thankful today that they forgave."

And with that, Alarcon flipped through a photo album she hadn't seen since the shooting, then waved at her parents as she walked out of the courtroom on her way to prison, and possibly, redemption.
