FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- As the incumbent , Congressman David Valadao has an edge, even in a district where Democrats outnumber Republicans. He doesn't think Vice President Joe Biden's visit to Bakersfield will do much for his opponent, Amanda Renteria.
"I don't believe the White House has as much presence as it did 5 years ago, four years ago or even last year," said Valadeo, "With the Vice President there's actually a 50-50 shot he will say something he will have to apologize for."
Valadao was noting the Vice President's recent apologies after offending Arab and Turkish leaders when he said their efforts to oust Syria's leadership ended up helping the terrorist ISIS organization.
As for Renteria, Valadao said recent decisions by the Democratic Central Committee (DCCC) in Washington to divert advertising funding from her to other Democrats indicated they recognized he was well ahead in the polls. "That we are doing well, the people in the district are still supportive of me and we are going to continue to work but the numbers are looking pretty good."
But Fresno County Democratic Party Chairman Michael Evans says the shift in spending because Renteria is showing such strength. "I think it's because they don't think she needs it, I think the ground game is sufficient enough to get her over the top."
And Evans says Biden's visit is a big deal. "That's huge, it definitely shows the support of the administration in Amanda Renteria and her candidacy it shows the D triple C is firmly behind her. They are reallocating resources based on trouble in other races but there's no trouble here."
