FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A local hardware store is taking action, helping to make a big "cooling" difference this summer for families in need.
Over the past several weeks, the Ace Hardware at Champlain and Shepherd in northeast Fresno has asked customers if they would like to "round up" when they make a purchase to support neighbors in need.
Those small donations added up to $1,400, which led to the purchase of 84 box fans.
On Wednesday, the money and the fans were donated to the Salvation Army, which will handle the distribution.
The Salvation Army plans to distribute the fans to seniors, low-income families and anyone else who needs help to stay cool during the hottest months of the year.
