PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KFSN) -- An outpour of support in Porterville on Wednesday, as flags flew and officers rendered a salute to fallen Parlier Police officer Jesus Dario Corona as he was laid to rest.
Outside the Parlier and Laton Lions Clubs left gift bags for guests, with messages remembering Officer Corona.
"It warms the heart seeing all these people, that he was loved and honored by so many people that they all took the time to honor him by showing up," said Parlier Lions Club member Joe Sanchez.
He told us it was time for them to do their part in serving the community that Officer Corona dedicated his life to.
With agencies from across the Valley standing by in support, family and friends said their final goodbyes to the fallen hero.
The 29-year-old lost his life unexpectedly in a car accident on November 30 while driving to work.
"As we saw Monday night with the mass showing at the memorial that we had for him, he was just a wonderful police officer, a wonderful man taken way too early," said Parlier Police Chief Michael Salvador.
Wearing a black line through his badge in remembrance, he told us Wednesday's showing was nothing less than what Officer Corona deserved.
"He had this infectious smile and kind of a wit about him that was kind of infectious," the chief said.
Despite the stunning tribute, the department knows the hole left by Officer Corona will be felt forever.
"Ceremonies like this are wonderful tributes to a life well lived, and a career well served. Every person out here would bring Jesus back in a heartbeat if they could. That includes me," Salvador added.
Anyone who would like to support Officer Corona's family can find his "Fund-a-Hero" campaign on the Parlier Police Department's Facebook page.
