AVENAL, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Kings County Board of Supervisors has released an update regarding a dispute over fire services in Avenal.
Kings County supervisors voted unanimously Saturday to end the county's fire services contract with the city of Avenal, citing public safety concerns tied to a dispute over a boxing event at Avenal's new community center.
Late Wednesday afternoon, Kings County leaders said Kings County Fire Station 12, located in the city, is now closed, and personnel have been reassigned to support regional coverage.
The county said it will continue to respond to emergencies in Avenal based on dispatch criteria and with additional support through partner agencies, including CAL FIRE and Fresno County Fire.
Earlier this week, a new six-month transition plan was announced to ensure residents still have access to emergency services.
