1 man injured, another killed in 2 separate Fourth of July shootings

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Video captured by ABC30 Insider shows the moments before gunfire erupted during the overnight hours of the Independence Day holiday in North Fresno.

In the footage, a man can be heard saying, "You were going to run me over," as a vehicle's headlights appear while it makes a U-turn in the street. Moments later, someone begins yelling before gunfire breaks out.

ShotSpotter detected three rounds of gunfire near the intersection of North Maroa and Pinedale avenues.

"The black sports vehicle, possibly a Toyota, took off on Maroa towards Minarets," a dispatcher can be heard saying over the radio.

When officers arrived, they found a 44-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his left thigh on West Alluvial Avenue, a short distance from where the shooting occurred. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment and was later released.

Neighbors said the area is typically quiet and that many residents did not notice the gunfire because of fireworks being set off nearby.

Elsewhere in central Fresno, police responded to a separate shooting that turned deadly just minutes prior.

"Got a phone call; they started saying a party just got shot up," a dispatcher said over the radio.

Officers were called to East Dakota Avenue and Abby Street, where they found a gunshot victim lying in the roadway. Police identified the victim as 36-year-old Keith Breazell.

The shooting happened as families were out celebrating the holiday. Neighbors described the scene as resembling a block party when gunfire rang out.

"I got multiple people running in both directions," a dispatcher said over the radio.

Detectives continued canvassing the area for evidence following the shooting. Police told Action News they do not believe the two shootings are connected.

The investigations into both incidents remain ongoing.
