Merced house fire displaces family of 5

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A family has been displaced after a fire ripped through their house in Merced Friday night.

The flames broke out around 9 p.m. at a home near Sonora and Cordova avenues. The family of five was not home at the time of the fire.

The Merced Fire Department said the fire started in the garage, and the interior space sustained heat and smoke damage. The cause of the fire has not been released.
