New Burlington Coat Factory to bring jobs, more retail in Hanford

HANFORD, Calif. (KFSN) -- Coming soon signs line the sidewalk on 11th Avenue in Hanford.

It's where Burlington is preparing to open its doors this spring and locals say they're looking forward to the new addition.

"I think the growth Hanford and the surrounding areas are making is for the best, it brings more towards the community, so you don't have to travel very far," says Hanford resident Albert Soto.

The new store replaces the former 99-cent store that closed in the spring of 2024.

Now, after years of planning, Hanford residents will have another place to shop, adding to the city's already expanding retail.

"If you haven't been to Hanford in a while, you will see some new homes, new developments, and new restaurants," says Hanford Community Relations Manager Brian Johnson.

City leaders say Hanford is growing rapidly and was recently named one of the nation's 10 fastest-growing cities.

The new store will also create more jobs and generate additional tax revenue, which officials say will help improve the local quality of life.

But most importantly, the city says residents asked for this store in a recent survey.

"Burlington was in the top 5 of about a dozen retailers," said Johnson. "I think it got more than 800 votes, so it was clear even a couple of years ago when we did those surveys that people of Hanford wanted to see Burlington here, and I think it's time."

The store is set to open in the coming months.
