KERN COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Porterville mother has accepted a plea deal in relation to the death of her son, who was left in a hot car for hours in Bakersfield last year.
Kern County judge Charles Brehmer announced the agreement between the Kern County District Attorney's office and 20-year-old Maya Hernandez during a hearing on Wednesday.
The DA's office will be dropping the first-degree murder charge and in exchange, Hernandez will plead no-contest to involuntary manslaughter and two additional enhancements of child cruelty. She will also receive two strikes on her record.
The deal comes after a mistrial was declared last December for the first-degree murder charge she was facing.

Prosecutors accused Hernandez of leaving her two young sons, one-year-old Amillio Gutierrez and his two-year-old brother, strapped in their car seats outside a med spa on June 29.
Amillio died after being hospitalized with a body temperature of 107 degrees. His older brother survived.
Hernandez's defense attorneys argued that prosecutors failed to prove she showed a conscious disregard for life.
Hernandez is scheduled to be sentenced to 15 years in prison on March 5.
