High school seniors must have a minimum GPA of 2.75, though the program is not limited to recent graduates.

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Students in the South Valley will soon have access to new financial support for higher education, as the Tulare County Association of Governments prepares to launch a scholarship program aimed at reducing college costs.
The program is still in its early stages, but organizers say they're prepared to launch the scholarships in the spring.
"It's in the beginning phases, so right now our committee is focusing on obtaining donations and sponsorships so we can start giving out sponsorships in the 2027 school year," said Elena Nava, TCAG media specialist.
The scholarships will be open to Tulare County residents pursuing studies in business or STEM fields. Applicants must not be related to TCAG board members or staff.
High school seniors must have a minimum GPA of 2.75, though the program is not limited to recent graduates.
"It could be a single mom who decides to go back to school - but it is also encouraged for high school seniors to apply," Nava said.
Organizers say the program is designed to be flexible and inclusive.
"It can be someone who is attending a trade school, so that's a bonus," Nava said. "Not all scholarships are available for trade schools."
TCAG officials said they hope to award at least two $1,500 scholarships each year, with the goal of supporting students who plan to contribute to the local workforce.
"We just really are looking for that retention and students coming back to Tulare County to help grow our county and make everything so much better through planning and engineering to help agencies like ours," Nava said.
Applications are expected to open in January, with scholarships awarded in May. Organizers encourage prospective applicants to follow TCAG's social media channels for updates and application information.
