Woman turns self in weeks after deadly Fresno hit-and-run crash, police say

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A woman accused in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Central Fresno has turned herself in to police.

Fresno police say 31-year-old Jamie Danielle McKenzie is facing charges of felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in connection with the crash that killed 30-year-old Marvin Johnson Jr.

Police said McKenzie was driving a silver SUV that collided with Johnson's motorcycle on the evening of July 1 at Fruit and Dakota avenues and left the scene after the collision.

Johnson was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Family members previously gathered for a vigil at the crash site and spoke about Johnson's death.

"For him to just go like that and you just take off and leave him like he's trash and just don't have the decency to see if he's breathing, to see if he's okay, how could you do that?" said Ashley Deloney, Johnson's aunt.

According to Johnson's family, he worked for Amazon and operated his own small business. Family members said he was on the phone with his wife moments before the crash.

McKenzie was booked into jail on Monday. Her bail was set at more than $17,000.
