Train derails near Earlimart, causes traffic jam

EARLIMART, Calif. (KFSN) -- Tulare County firefighters are trying to figure out what caused a train to go off track near Earlimart. It happened just before 3:30 Tuesday afternoon near Highway 99 and Avenue 48.

Investigators said eight of the Union Pacific railcars derailed. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.

However, the biggest problem for investigators was slowed traffic in the area caused several traffic accidents. Many drivers along Highway 99 were slowing down to see what was happening.
