Fred Martin was at work Wednesday morning, when he and his wife say someone kicked in their door and broke out a window, all while trying to break into their Fresno county home. Fortunately, nothing was stolen.
The Martins credit their alarm system for scaring the suspects away. Still, they admit they're concerned, after several of their neighbors have reported similar burglary attempts.
"I don't like what happened to my neighbors. I don't like that our friend actually had to shoot at someone. That's the part that's bothering me the most."
Around 10am Sunday morning, three men broke down the door of their friend's home located about a mile and a half away. The homeowner did not want his face shown on camera, but told Action News he grabbed a gun, and fired two rounds. He didn't hit anybody, and all of the suspects got away.
"And the reason I went and got the gun, we've had numerous break-ins all last week, we've had about 4 break ins all last week."
Victoria Salwasser says she also encountered some close calls, just doors down from the other incidents. On Monday, someone broke the front window of her Fig Avenue home.
Then on Wednesday, the back window was smashed.
"We have a burglar alarm, so we think that scared them away"
The Fresno County Sheriff's Office says they are aware of the problem and have since sent more deputies to patrol the area. But while the suspects in these cases still remain on the loose, people in this tight-knit community say all they can do now is be aware.
"Well it makes me nervous and I'm locking my doors tighter."
The suspects involved in Sunday morning's shooting took off in a white Mitsubishi pickup, the same vehicle described by other victims in the area.
Meanwhile, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office is still trying to piece together exactly how many break-ins have been reported in the area since last week.
