It happened at an apartment complex at Kings Canyon and Peach around 9:45 Sunday morning.
Firefighters say they were able to knock down the fire quickly - and keep it from spreading to other units.
However, the unit where the fire started suffered extensive damage -- and the family who lives there lost everything.
"The cause of the fire is under investigation," said Ted Semonious. "There were people at home at the time of the fire and we're having a little bit of a difficult time understanding what led to the fire."
Firefighters don't believe Christmas decorations or heating devices led to the fire.
A mother and her daughter have been displaced.
