FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno police officer was taken to Community Regional Medical Center after falling off his motorcycle. It happened after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Maple and Iowa avenues in East Central Fresno.

A witness told police the officer was riding his motorcycle southbound on Maple, slowly came to a stop at Iowa, and then fell over with the motorcycle and onto the roadway. The motorcycle officer appeared to be lightheaded. Police say he did not sustain any visible injuries.

The officer was last listed in stable condition. He is currently being monitored.

Police are not sure what caused the officer to fall. They say it could be related to the current heat wave or may have been medically related.

Authorities have not released the officer's name. They say he is a 22-year veteran who has been assigned to the Traffic Bureau as a motorcycle officer for several years.
