LOS ANGELES (KFSN) -- The California Highway Patrol has issued an Amber Alert for 2-year-old Edwin Vargas. Authorities say he was abducted by his father Abraham Vargas, a 27-year-old Hispanic man.

Los Angeles police say the boy's mother was putting him into a car seat at their home in Boyle Heights on Friday morning, when his father grabbed the boy and took off. Police say there is a restraining order against Vargas, and he is not allowed to have his son.

Authorities were looking for them in an orange 2004 Nissan Quest minivan, but that vehicle was found in East L.A. later in the day. The father and son were nowhere to be found.

Family members say Vargas has said he would like to take the boy to Mexico.
