Police were called out to a house on Pacheco Street near 20th Avenue late Thursday night, after a woman sorting through her late husband's belongings found two World War II era grenades and a mortar.
Police told residents on the block to shelter in place while a robot gathered the explosives and placed them into a bomb squad vehicle.
A police convoy escorted the items to a remote area near the airport where they were safely detonated. That blast happened around 2:00 am and could be heard for miles. Nobody was hurt.
