Pot plants found in former Fresno officer's home after shooting

FRESNO, Calif.

Officers discovered the growing operation near Herndon and Millburn when they responded to an attempted home invasion.

Police say a man kicked in the door of the home Thursday morning to get in but was confronted by the former juvenile probation officer. The former officer shot the intruder in the leg. The man ran from the house, but was caught with the help of a Kings County Welfare Investigator.

The ex-officer was not hurt. The burglary suspect was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

During their investigation, officers happened to become suspicious of two rooms inside the house. After receiving a search warrant, officers found more than 100 marijuana plants inside the rooms.

The former correctional officer is now in jail facing several charges.
