Well-known Merced lawman Bill Blake dies at 65

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Family and friends are mourning the loss of former Merced County Undersheriff, Bill Blake.

He died early Sunday morning at the age of 65 after a recent illness. Blake spent nearly four decades with the department before retiring in 2009. He went on to serve two terms as a Merced City Council member.

Blake leaves behind three children and several grandchildren. Current Sheriff, Vern Warnke, described him as a larger-than-life figure who made an instant impact on everyone he met.

There's no word yet on plans for his funeral services.
