As fast food chains fight to the death in a declining market, the grills are heating up as each tries to one up another in offering the most unbeatable discounts. On Monday, Burger King announced one of the most competitive food discounts in modern memory: 10-piece Chicken Nuggets for $1.49, cutting the price in half. Check out our top six discounts in the gallery above.

Typically, McDonald's reigns supreme at this time of year, during their annual Monopoly sweepstakes promotion, but its biggest rivals have hit back with their own deals. While McDonald's 20-piece Chicken McNuggets are offered at a great deal of $5, BK's nuggets are offered more than 40 percent cheaper.

BK made it personal when their Australian franchise (known as Hungry Jack's) attempted to undermine McDonald's Monopoly promotion by offering to honor the free food prize coupons that customers had won from the Monopoly sweepstakes. They even called the campaign "Flame Their McOpoly."

Also hitting the dollar menu where it hurts are KFC, Taco Bell, Dairy Queen and Pizza Hut who each announced new, heavily discounted offers recently.

Historically, the best fast food deals have come out after the new year, when most families have overspent on the holidays and looking to save money. However, times have changed now that no chain can wait as they each struggle for new clientele and brand loyalty.
