Students with Fresno State's nursing program hit the road

FRESNO, Calif (KFSN) -- Students with Fresno State's nursing program hit the road today to offer free health services for rural communities.

Parlier was the first of ten stops this semester for Fresno State's Nursing Community Health Mobile. A number of screenings from blood pressure to diabetes were available to anyone.

An assistant professor with the program believes the need for health services is very high in rural areas of the Central Valley.

Dr. Cyndi Guerra explained, "Because of the agricultural and farming areas I think there is maybe a lack of insurance with some patients or clients and maybe some issues with transportation."

Funding for the program is made possible through grants that are paying for an on-site physician, driver, and various medical supplies.

The mobile unit itself is on loan from the Fresno County Office of Education.

The next stop for the mobile health unit will be in Sanger on October 6th.
