Men's grooming business growing in Valley
When it comes to men, the beauty and personal care business is now a $6 billion.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- When it comes to men, the beauty and personal care business is now a $6 billion.

That trend is also hitting home here with new barber shops opening up. The sound of clippers and cuts fill the Great American Barber Shop in North Fresno.

"Barbering is so popular right now with what we call a third place," owner Tye Featherstone said. "It's not home, it's not work it's just a place to hang out and get your hair cut and have fun."

Featherstone is the owner of the shop. He says men are becoming more interested in a great cut and taking care of themselves.

"From metrosexuals to lumbersexuals and now we're just into guys being guys and what that is clean fashion forward and ready to go to work," he explained.

The razor cut shave is done by some of the professionals.

"It's very relaxing. It's different. It's almost an art," customer Tyler Bare said. "If you turned me loose with this razor. who knows what the outcome could be."

Even some of their youngest customers are learning style early on.

"I like the shape," Featherstone's son said.

Since they opened in February of 2015, business has been booming.

"It's been a little crazy," Featherstone said. "We started out with a few barbers and now we have 14."

The shop even had to put in more chairs to serve their clients and now they're looking to help one more valley city get a little bit more clean cut.

The barbershop has expanded from North Fresno to Clovis, where they're setting up shop at a place in the trading post.

Construction is currently underway on the shop.

Featherstone says the new store is in a great location to serve more of his clients.

"We're doing six and then we have room to expand to two more which we didn't have at the other space," he said.

The new store in Clovis is expected to open in mid-April. As for Featherstone, he's passionate about helping men look and feel good.

"I mean a good hair cut makes you be a better father a better husband and a better American," Featherstone exclaimed.
