FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno Police arrested a popular member of the Fresno State Men's Basketball team over the weekend.
Officers arrested junior forward Karachi Edo Friday night and now he's facing a misdemeanor battery charge.
Fresno Police say they arrived at an apartment complex near Fresno State on Friday night and say Edo was involved in an altercation with his ex-girlfriend.
Investigators say her roommate called police and they describe an incident where Edo was making verbal threats when showing up to the door.
We're told he knocked on the door and eventually the two ended up talking until the girlfriend says he struck her with an open hand on her upper right shoulder.
Officers say there are no signs on visible harm, and they say Edo denies striking her.
Investigators believe the two have a relationship going back to Texas, where Edo went to high school.
Edo was booked into the Fresno County jail and released early Saturday morning.
Edo was an instrumental part of team's first men's NCAA Basketball Tournament appearance in 15 years.
He was nursing a hand injury and missed several games during the season, but returned in time for the tournament run.
Fresno State says it's aware of the situation and working with the authorities, waiting for information.
