FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Family members are sharing funeral plans for a prominent leader in Fresno's African American community.
Les Kimber died Saturday after a recent illness. He was the founder of the California Advocate newspaper and a two term Fresno City Councilman in the 1980's. Kimber was also a dedicated civil rights activist who helped organize the annual Martin Luther King Junior march in Downtown Fresno.
Kimber leaves behind his wife of 57 years, their four children, and four grandchildren. He was 80 years old.
A wake will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at Cooley's Funeral Home on Fruit Avenue. A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Saint Rest Baptist Church on East Reverend Chester Riggins Avenue.
