Man steals mail truck, crashes in Northwest Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man is in custody after he stole a U.S Postal Service truck and took it for a short joy ride in Northwest Fresno.

Investigators say the truck was reported stolen just after 12 p.m. on Shaw and Jackson.

The suspect crashed the vehicle down the road on Shaw and Maroa, officials said.

"I thought the mailman was in the truck, so when I came out, there's no one in there, well he had already jumped our fence and was in our backyard," said witness Julianna Patrick.

Witnesses say the man hopped another fence before he was arrested on Shaw Avenue.

He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
