FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- The California Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed two people in Fresno County.
Officers say two people died Thursday afternoon when a big rig tractor trailer crashed into the back of a car at Manning Avenue and Fowler Avenue. Investigators say the car was stopped a stop sign at the time and the truck pushed the car all the way through the intersection and into a telephone pole.
The impact killed two people inside the car -- Leticia Trejo and Ricardo Santos. Two other people, Reynalda and Efren Santos of Selma, were taken to the hospital with injuries.
Officers say the truck driver, driven by 38-year-old Alonso Hernandez of Los Angeles, then hit another big rig a short distance away at Manning Avenue and Golden State. After stopping briefly, Hernandez continued to a gas station on Highway 99 and Manning Avenue -- where he fled on foot.
Authorities arrested the driver of the big rig Alonso Hernandez. He faces charges of driving under the influence, felony hit and run, and vehicular manslaughter.
The driver of the second big rig, 45-year-old Julio Valenzuela of Reedley, was treated for minor injuries at Community Regional Medical Center.
