Next Miss California to be crowned in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The next Miss California will be crowned right here in Fresno. This year's winner will be crowned at the Saroyan Theater.

These beautiful women are getting ready for the competition of a lifetime, Miss California. Women from across the state are competing, including some Valley hopefuls like Blair Bostwick.

"It's amazing," said Bostwick. "It's very exhilarating and it's very new because this is the first time I have competed, but I'm so blesses to be here and represent my community."

Miss Tulare County, Tara Broderick is also excited. She's been preparing for months.

"It takes a lot," said Broderick. "It takes dedication, working out everyday, working with people, how to improve your speech, following up on current events and watching the news constantly."

But it isn't just the contestants who come to Fresno. They bring friends and family along too. Businesses say those extra people are positive for Downtown Fresno.

42 young ladies are vying to win Miss California Outstanding Teen and 54 women are competing for the Miss California crown.

Contestants like Broderick say she's ready for the competition and to spread her platform of anti-bullying.

"Oh my gosh if I become Miss California that means I could take my platform and just run with it to Miss America," said Broderick. "That would just amazing to represent California at Miss America."

The women say no matter if they win or lose, they'll walk with a memorable experience and possibly thousands of dollars in scholarship money. But come this Saturday, one woman will be crowned Miss California 2014.
