FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A woman has been hospitalized after police say she was shot in southeast Fresno.
The shooting happened just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of E. Balch Ave. and S. Winery Ave.
When officers arrived, they found the woman in the road with a gunshot wound to the head.
She was taken to the hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time, but authorities say she was conscious and breathing when they arrived.
While on the scene, a man came back to the area and witnesses told police he may have been involved.
Officers detained the man after a brief foot chase but said he is not cooperating with the investigation.
"A male came back into the area when this occurred. It was pointed out by a potential witness that that person might've been involved in the shooting, and that male is a Hispanic male in his 20s. He is currently detained at this time, pending further investigation by our detectives," said Lieutenant Skye Liebee.
One officer suffered minor injuries during the chase but did not require medical attention.
Police are still investigating what led up to the shooting. Authorities say it could be a case of domestic violence.
Officers are expected to remain in the area for a few hours.
