Teen fatally shot while friend handled gun at Atwater home, police say

ATWATER, Calif. (KFSN) -- A teenage boy has died after he was shot by his friend while handling a gun at a home in Atwater on Monday evening.

Atwater police say the friend was holding a gun while in a room with the victim when the weapon was fired, striking him.

Officers arrived and provided aid to the victim but he died at the scene.

The victim has not been identified.

It is unknown who owned the gun or how the teens got hold of it.

The shooting remains under investigation.
