Protecting yourself on public Wi-Fi
In today's mobile universe, working from home often means a home away from home -- using public WiFi. Consumer Reports says that there are a few things you can do to keep your data safer.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- In today's mobile universe, working from home often means a home away from home -- using public WiFi. Consumer Reports says that there are a few things you can do to keep your data safer.

- Make sure your firewall is turned on. It's the first line of defense against viruses and malware

- Turn off settings like 'network discovery' and file sharing' -- that will make it more difficult for people near you to see your data

- Set up automatic updates on your devices -- and always install them when they're offered to you

- Consider using a virtual private network, or V-P-N.

Every adjustment can make a difference, according to Consumer Reports.
