BOSTON -- A driver escaped serious injury this weekend when a sheet of ice crashed through her windshield on Interstate 495 in Massachusetts.
"All of a sudden, in the left-hand lane, I see this car that was way up in front of me, an SUV. A sheet of ice came off of it and I saw it starting to fly through the air," Laurie Langelo told WCVB.
The ice slammed into her windshield, shattering the glass.
"The slivers of glass were all over the place. They were in my neck, they were on my hat, they were in my hands, I think I had my gloves off at the time," she said.
Langelo pulled over and called 911. She ended up going to the hospital, just in case. While she's physically OK, getting back behind the wheel might not be so easy.
"I keep having flashbacks, thinking that thing coming at me, I'm like, 'Uh.' It just, you know, it's going to take me a while to get back on 495, I think," she said.
As we get ready for more winter weather, she hopes drivers make sure to clear their cars, including the roof.
"Just please, clean your car off, get that ice off. Go the extra mile because you could really kill somebody with that ice," she said.
