Keeping Kids Out Of Trouble

KFSN Dozens of kids came out to the Mary Brown Community Center for a parks and recreation event.

Fun science lessons kept some of them busy, while others preferred the bounce houses or jump ropes.

City officials say the big turnout highlights how important the city's involvement is. Randall Cooper, Fresno Parks Department, says "The need is real here. You can see it in the number of children here. There's lot of kids who need things to do in a positive manner."

The parks department has also taken over the after-school recreation program at west Fresno elementary.

City leaders say they want to give kids something to do at school, in the evening, and on the weekends.
