Chicago Helicopter Crash

October 16, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
Four people are dead after a medical helicopter crashed in a Chicago suburb overnight. Police in Aurora, Illinois said three crew members and a 13-month old patient were killed when the chopper went down in a field near a residential area. The helicopter was headed to Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago when it went down minutes before midnight.

Witnesses said the pilot did what he could to keep the failing aircraft away from homes. "He maneuvered over further north because he knew it was a cornfield," said witness Charlie Bollter, "and he did a good job, I wouldn't be here now if he hit my building"

There is no word yet on what caused the accident. The helicopter belonged to Air Angels, an emergency medical transport service.
