Vigil for Murdered Mother of Five in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif.

"We want to get the word out that she wasn't just some lady she was a Mom and a grandma and a daughter and we all miss her very much," said Deddon.

Nobody knows why Barbery's life ended on a street in Northwest Fresno. Her family and friends say things had been tough since she lost her job last year, but that she had been working to pull things together.

"Tragic, it's described as tragic. Lives have been almost ruined with her loss. She was a great Mom; all five of her kids are well mannered, smart, kind, it's just sad," said Stefanie Lowe, a friend of the victim.

Many here didn't know Barbery. Bill and Jan Young came out because they live next to the murder scene.

Bill Young said, "This is really a sad time and a really terrible tragedy for this woman's family and her friends and we hated to be so close to the incident, we heard it happen."

Jan Young added; "We had just gone to bed the other night when we heard the gunshot and we came out and saw her and its like my heart just sank."

Whatever happened, the victim's family wants to keep her memory alive, and see justice done.

Son Tony, who's 24, said, "It makes me feel mad. It makes me feel sad. It makes me feel ... like as I said, as far as I have to take it, my Mom's murder will not go unsolved."

Fresno Police are investigating reports a man was seen running from the scene and jumping a fence after the gunshot last Friday night.

Barbery Dugan's friends and family will say only that she had been going through a "rough patch" and say she had not been with her family but had been staying in a hotel.
