Catching prospect Posey called up by Giants

Fresno, CA "You don't ever really want to get called up for somebody because of an injury," said Posey in a recent interview with Action News. "You don't ever wish an injury on somebody. But I feel like I'll be ready."

In his 82-game Grizzlies career, Posey hit .337 with 11 home runs and 54 RBI's. It's his consistent offensive production the Giants wanted in their lineup as soon as possible, even if his natural catching position isn't open.

"Well I'd like to catch," Posey said. "I enjoy catching. I enjoy working with the pitchers. But I think most people tell you if they have an opportunity to play in the big leagues they'll play anywhere and I think that holds pretty true. But at the same time, I do enjoy catching."

Posey honed his skills at the position with manager Steve Decker, a longtime professional at the position. Decker sees Posey making an impact with the Giants for years to come.

"The one thing that Buster has is that he's a complete package guy," said Decker. "He's a smart guy, has aptitude. He's a very good baserunner. Catching wise, all the skills are there to be a good catcher. He has the tools to be an all-star caliber catcher for a long time for the San Francisco Giants."

And he'll do so as a self-proclaimed proud Grizzly, with memories from Fresno he says he'll never forget.

"I definitely appreciate the support," Posey said. "It's been good. I've enjoyed it. I got here last year and it was 150 degrees. It's not so bad right now but it's a beautiful stadium, got great fans here and I've had a good time."
