Gas leak forces evacuations in NE Fresno

FRESNO, Calif.

PG&E says crews were working in the area of Chestnut and Shepherd when they accidentally hit a gas line around 11:30 Saturday night.

The ruptured line triggered a gas release, which sounded like a jet engine. The sound lasted for several hours as the gas escaped, while crews worked to cap the leak.

No injuries were reported, and crews were on the scene for several hours repairing the rupture.
