The shooting happened just after 10:00 Saturday night on Margaret Court near South Canal Street.
Merced Police say 18-year-old Hector Maldonado was in his garage with a friend when a car pulled up to their driveway.
The suspect got out of the car -- started firing at Maldonado -- then drove off.
Maldonado was flown to a hospital in Modesto. He is in serious but stable condition.
Merced Police are still looking for the suspect.
No word on the motive.
