2013 a record year for California's grape industry

FRESNO, Calif.

According to the Business Journal, California grape growers shipped more than 117 million boxes of grapes last year -- bringing in $1.7 billion. That's up from 101 million boxes in 2012.

The 2013 season started in May, and because of the mild winter conditions, it continued into February.

California produces almost 99 percent of the commercial fresh grapes grown in the United States -- many coming from the Central Valley.
