Tywain Robinson sentenced to 50 years to life for 2021 murder and attempted murder

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Convicted killer Tywain Robinson will now spend 50 years to life in prison for the murder of 24-year-old Isaac Jackson and attempted murder of 30-year-old Terrell Williams in May 2021.

"This was one particular act of violence that made up for a lifetime of non-violence," Fresno County Superior Judge Gary R. Orozco said.

Robinson had taken the stand in his own trial and admitted to opening fire on the two men through the door of his southeast Fresno apartment.

They had shown up to check on Jackson's niece -who was in a relationship with Robinson.

He claimed the shooting was self-defense, but a jury disagreed.

On Wednesday, Judge Orozco recalled the weeks-long trial that ended back in October.

"There was an attempt to create an impression of Mr. Jackson posing a threat to the defendant, but as the evidence showed, it looked like they were relaxed going over, 'hey just making sure everything is okay here,'" Judge Orozco explained.

Prosecutors say Robinson followed the two victims as they ran to their car and kept shooting. Jackson was killed while sitting in the front passenger seat.

The judge saying those actions showed "no mercy."

"He chose to continue acting and continued to fire rounds at those two individuals in that enclosed, small compartment of the motor vehicle," Judge Orozco said.

Robinson left the area after the shooting - and was arrested in Oregon more than a year later.

His attorney spoke on his behalf in court Wednesday.

"I know he would say he experiences remorse for his actions for that day," Robinson's attorney, Scott Baly said.

Jackson's family upset over those words.

"To say he has remorse that he has remorse, he does not. I saw none of it. I saw no remorse at all," Jackson's aunt, Vickie Keller said through tears.

"Your honor, I ask that you treat him the same way he treated my cousin: with no mercy and no remorse," Jackson's cousin, Shevah Decker said as she wiped away tears.

Robinson faces 50 years to life for first degree murder with a gun enhancement and an additional life sentence with the possibility of parole for the attempted murder of Williams.

Jackson's family continues to remember him as a sweetheart and loving person.
