South Valley Gang Crackdown

Visalia police are cracking down on gangs without making any arrests.Prosecutors got an injunction they hope will stop gang members from gathering together in an area of north Visalia. They call it a safety zone and it extends from near Lincoln Oval Park to Birdland.

Police hope it keeps parks and neighborhoods looking like this, with kids free to play on a weekend, and parents not worried about gangs in the area. "There's nothing more scary than to see a bunch of people together in certain areas and you're like 'oh, we can't have a good time because something might happen," said Visalia resident Gabino Valdez.

The injunction is a court order telling more than 500 Nortenos they're not allowed to get together inside the safety zone. Tulare county prosecutors issued a similar injunction in Ivanhoe earlier this month.
