A woman drowned in the Kings River

Fresno, CA It happened near Sanger, where the Kings River intersects with Annadale Avenue.

Fresno County sheriff's deputies and fire crews were called to the scene around 10:40 this morning and found the woman floating in the river.

The 60 year old woman was unconscious and attempts to revive her failed. Investigators said the victim and a companion had entered the river at highway 180, but they recommend people enter below Goodfellow Avenue, because of dangerous conditions.

Sgt. Shawn Erwin, Fresno County Sheriff's Dept said, "Above Goodfellow tends to be very fast water, a lot of trees to get stuck in. The sheriff's department would like to let people know that if they get into the water, it's very dangerous and very fast. Before you know it, you can get stuck in trees."

The drowning victim was wearing a life-vest, but sheriff's deputies say when it comes to fast moving water, that's not enough to guarantee your safety.
