A housekeeper discovered a man's body inside a room at the Quality Inn on Ashlan and Highway 99 Saturday.
Police say the victim in his forties had at least one gunshot wound.
A source tells Action News the man was seen checking into the hotel with a woman Thursday.
Police say they're trying to contact the woman and anyone else who saw the man before he was shot.
Investigators are waiting for an autopsy to determine whether the death is a homicide or if the gunshot wound was self inflicted.
The man's name has not been released.
