Stabbing at Fresno Yosemite International Airport

FRESNO, Calif.

/*Mitchell Dufur*/ is in custody accused of assault with a deadly weapon after a stabbing at Fresno-Yosemite International Airport.

Police say a man was waiting for a plane Sunday night at FYI when Dufur, 26, approached him and stabbed him in the chest. The man was treated at the airport and boarded his flight.

The victim was Sikh, and Monday the Sacramento Valley office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations contacted the FBI and local police to investigate the stabbing as a hate crime.

Investigators have not determined if the victim's religion played a role in the attack.

Dufur is on probation for resisting a peace officer in May. He was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon in 2006. That charge was later dismissed as a part of a plea deal.
