Wednesday morning, Walmart opened its new neighborhood market to shoppers. The store is now the anchor of the revived shopping center along Shaw and Fowler.
The complex was hit hard after its anchor store, Albertson's, left. Now with a new store the parking lot is filled with people once again.
City leaders say they hope the businesses that struggled during tough times will also benefit from the new store.
Clovis Mayor Lynne Ashbeck said, "One of the things that cities struggle with is vacant storefronts and Walmart coming to this center has really brought back life to the entire shopping center. We are thrilled to welcome a new business to Clovis."
There are three other new businesses in the center. A new salon Haircutting 101 is opening. Clovis True Value took over the old Walgreens spot and is open now. And an American Tire Depot is under construction, it is scheduled to open in a month or two.
