Sunday marked the 57th annual procession in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe. It reenacts her appearance to an Indian peasant, Juan Diego, back in 1531.
Bishop Armando Ochoa blessed the participants as they made their way from Saint John's Cathedral toward the Fresno Convention Center, where they celebrated a mass marking the first Sunday of advent.
"It's really a great experience because it brings together grandma and grandpa, children to really get involved and understand what's going on," Bishop Ochoa said.
Our Lady of Guadalupe is perhaps Mexico's most popular religious image.
