Police say a man, who was naked from the waist down, assaulted a 20-year-old Merced woman while she was walking to her apartment with her laundry. They said while investigating the incident, they were able to identify the suspect as John Campos.
The investigating officer said that Campos was suspected of loitering naked in the same area in August of 2013. They said at that time, there was no witness or victim that came forward to file charges.
Investigators say surveillance video showed Campos in the area at the time of the assault. They said Campos was also positively identified by the victim.
Merced Police arrested Campos without incident in his apartment, which was located a short distance from the alleged crime. He was booked at the Merced County Jail for indecent exposure and sexual batter after police say he admitted to accosting the victim.
