FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Dozens of drivers put the pedal to the metal at the Fresno Fairgrounds on Sunday. The Fresno chapter of the Sports Car Club of America hosted a day of racing.

The cars just have to pass an inspection and be wider than they are tall, but other than that, every type is welcome. Organizers say most of the vehicles are used every day by their owners and are not special race cars. But this is a chance to really see what they can do.

"Everyone comes out, they get to run the cars hard; you normally can't do that on street -- not really recommended," said event chair Ahla Yang. "You can come out here and push it as hard as you want. If you go out of control, there are cones to hit, really minimal danger out here."

You do have to pay a membership and event fee to take part in the races, but spectators are invited to watch for free.
