NEW YORK -- Police are investigating after a tourist snapped an illegal selfie on the Brooklyn Bridge.

David Karnauch took the photo Monday after climbing a beam on the bridge.

He climbed down before officer patrolling the bridge arrived.

He's now back home in Tennessee.

Police say his actions do not constitute a "security breach."

"The actions of this individual do not constitute a 'security breach'. The person most endangered was the individual whose goal seems to be bringing attention to himself. It was however, irresponsible and illegal. Had the officers patrolling the bridge arrived while he was there, he would have been arrested, as others have been. When he called the act 'not a smart thing to do', he described it correctly," the NYPD said in a statement.
