It is called the TCC Program and the goal is to help disadvantaged communities and reduce air pollution.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The goal of the TCC Program is to help disadvantaged communities and reduce air pollution.

The new campus, along with a park and transportation improvements is seen as a big boost to Southwest Fresno

"This project will help transform West Fresno. The City of Fresno is proud to be part of this historic event in partnership with the State Center Community College District," said Lee Brand.

The project is a new satellite community college campus, to be located next to the Gaston Middle School at Church and Martin Luther King streets. The goal is to make college more accessible to residents of this area.

"We have an amazing array of offerings, we will have academic as well as workforce training," said Carole Goldstein.

In addition to the campus, the City of Fresno is expected to spend another 15 million on a park, street improvements, and including the campus in a new electric bus program.

Council Member Oliver Baines says it is part of what the people in this community need.

"What they really want is a community that looks like any other thriving community in Fresno and this helps provide a pathway toward that," said Councilmember Oliver Baines.

Baines believes the campus and additional improvements are seen as a catalyst for additional growth.

"What you will see in that development is you will see commercial and retail you will see market rate single family development you will see parks and trails and amenities to correlate with all that investment so it's a really good day for southwest Fresno."
