Crue Allred gets his 'big chair'!
The inspiring story of a two-year-old Kingsburg boy.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Crue Allred is bulldozing through boundaries -- and fighting for his rights. Crue is a spunky little two year old. He's a big boy! And can do things without "moms" help.

For the Allreds Crue's spina bifida is simply a side note. In his life story, it will be a mere mention that he's paralyzed from the waist down.

"We kind of made the motto when he was first born that 'can't' wasn't going to be a word he would use," said Joe Allred, Crue's Dad.

But life for Crue hasn't always moved this fast. Since he was old enough, he's been in this wheelchair. Low to the ground and bulky, the smooth days were far and few between. And Anthem Blue Cross denied Crue a bigger lightweight wheelchair. Instead suggesting he ride a stoller until he turns five.

"Too common which is sad to say because children at Crue's age is to wander from parents and to be independent with mobility," said Susan Mahoney, equipment specialist C&R Medical.

That's until today. The Allred's appealed and Anthem Blue Cross delivered a brand new wheelchair.

"He calls it his 'big chair.' Seeing him in that his personality just shines through," said Aubrey Allred, Crue's mom.

Lightweight and custom, it's freedom made of metal and rubber. With the power of social media and fundraising, Crue has another one on the way -- one for sports of course.

"The best part is seeing how happy he is and his expressions. It's really awesome," said Easton Allred, Crue's older brother.

The fight with their insurance company isn't quite over yet. The shocks and the upgraded wheels aren't covered. And it's likely he'll grow out of his big chair soon. They'll have to fight for a bigger one and probably more expensive one.

"This is the first stepping stone of many," said Joe Allred.

But can't isn't defined in this kid's dictionary. And that's something you can't buy.
